The Third Ukrainian Educational Research Association Winter School «European Educational Research Quality Indicators»

The third Ukrainian Educational Research Association Winter School “European Educational Research Quality Indicators” took place on 27 January – 01 February 2020 in Lutsk. The event happened within the framework of realization the European Union Erasmus+ project in Jean Monnet direction «European Educational Research Quality Indicators for Empowering Educators in Ukraine» (№ 587032-EPP-1-2017-1-UA-EPPJMO-SUPPA). The School was organized by Ukrainian Education Research Association (UERA), and co-organized by Lutsk National Technical University with the financial support of Erasmus+ European Union Programme.

The grand opening ceremony of III Winter School took place at Lutsk National Technical University library. At the opening ceremony of the School participants were greeted by Rector of Lutsk National Technical University prof. Petro Savchuk, UERA President Prof. Svitlana Shchudlo (Project Coordinator). Vice-President of UERA Oksana Zabolotna presented history and mission of the Organization. Project manager of National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine Petro Krainik congratulated the participants in online mode.

The participants of the school are 25 young researchers who presented institutions of higher education and research institutions from different regions of Ukraine.

The work of the school took place in an atmosphere of close cooperation of all its participants. The trainers shared interesting experiences and introduced innovations in the field of educational research. In particular, Prof. Oksana Zabolotna (Uman) made a general review of European indicators of the quality of educational research. Sergiy Kurbatov (Kyiv) introduced the most authoritative systems of international University rankings (ARWU, QS, THE World University Rankings), and during the practical session, participants made a SWOT analysis of these systems. Professor Olena Kovalchuk (Lutsk) introduced the most important prerequisites for writing successful grant proposals, and on the last day of the school, its participants presented their own projects, which were the result of their joint work in groups. Associate Professor Volodymyr Satsyk (Kyiv) has described the modern standards of academic writing for young researchers. Associate Professor Nataliya Horuk (Lviv) revealed the features of using the narrative approach in qualitative pedagogical research. Associate Professor Tetiana Lisova (Nizhyn) introduced theoretical approaches and evaluation methods in international comparative studies (TIMSS, PIRLS, ICCS, TEDS-M, ICILS, SITES, PISA, TALIS, PIAAC). Professor Svitlana Schudlo (Drohobych) and Associate Professor Tetiana Medina (Chernivtsi) introduced empirical methods in educational research (using the example of scientific research conducted in UERA projects among representatives of the Romanian and Hungarian national minorities). Professor Oleksandr Dluhopolsky (Ternopil) outlined the European standards for accreditation of educational programs. Associate Professor Liudmyla Zagoruiko (Uman) introduced the international scientometric databases as platforms for presenting scientific achievements. Associate Professor Yuriy Kovalchuk (Kyiv) described the Mendeley program, which is part of an international network of scientists, and showed examples of how to manage a researcher's bibliographic information.

A national expert of the PISA project, a Methodist of the Ukrainian center for educational quality assessment Maria Mazorchuk, was invited to participate in the School. She revealed the features of analysis and interpretation of international research data (using the example of PISA).

The participants of the School confirmed their readiness to conduct a training (seminar) on the results of training in their educational institutions until March 31, 2020, in order to disseminate the obtained knowledge and skills.

The cultural program organized by the event's hosts – Lutsk National Technical University  was rich and informative. In particular, the participants of the school visited the Lubart Castle and other objects of architectural heritage of Lutsk, the Museum of modern Ukrainian art of the Korsak family, the Museum of beekeeping, the performance of the Volyn musical and drama theater. We hope that all participants of the school have only pleasant memories.
