On June 15, 2018, 2nd International UERA Conference «Implementing European Standards into Ukrainian Educational Research» was carried out. The event was part of Erasmus + Jean Monnet Project «European Indicators of Quality Educational Research for Empowering Ukrainian Educators» (№ 587032-EPP-1-2017-1-UA-EPPJMO-SUPPA).
The Conference was organized by Ukrainian Educational Research Association in cooperation with National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. It was co-funded by Erasmus + Programme of the European Union. The venue of the conference was Presidium of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv, 52 A Sichovych Striltsiv Str.)
At the conference opening the participants were greeted by President of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, academician of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, professor Vasyl Kremen; National Erasmus+ Office Project Manager Petro Kraynik; President of Ukrainian Educational Research Association, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor of Ivan Franko Drohobych State Pedagogical University Svitlana Shchudlo; President of Polish Educational Research Association, Vice-president of World Educational Research Association, Professor of University of Warsaw Joanna Madalińska-Michalak (Poland); Operations Officer in the World Bank’s Education Global Practice Lucia Casap (Moldova); Vice-president of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, academician of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor Oleg Topuzov.
The reports were presented at the plenary session, followed by three discussion groups, and a closing session. The conference was attended by 110 researchers and educational practitioners from 40 institutions of different regions of Ukraine: Kyiv, Lviv, Uman, Zaporizhzhia, Lutsk, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Drohobych, Ivano-Frankivsk, Nizhyn, Hlukhiv, Odesa, Ternopil, Cherkasy, Uzhhorod, Chernivtsi, Kherson, Chernihiv, Berdiansk, Kamyanets-Podilskyi, Starobilsk, Vinnnytsia, Poltava etc.
At the plenary session moderated by Prof. Oksana Zabolotna there were presentations by the key speakers: «Fostering Quality Education Research in Europe and Beyond: the Role of the European Educational Research Association» by Professor of University of Warsaw Joanna Madalińska-Michalak (Poland): «The Value of Having Good Data and Information Systems, their use for: better decisions and strengthen accountability mechanisms» by Operations Officer in the World Bank’s Education Global Practice Lucia Casap (Moldova); «Trends in Management/ Business Education: teacher’s role» by Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor, Rektor of Kyiv Institute of Business and Technology Olena Yakovleva.
The discussion groups focused on three key issues: the development of educational research for developing education in Ukraine; role of educational research for reforming pre-service teacher training, role of academic integrity and European ethical standards in educational research. The discussions were moderated by Prof. Volodymyr Bakhrushyn, Prof. Olena Lokshyna, Prof. Oksana Zabolotna, Doc. Tetyana Lisova, Prof. Sergiy Kurbatov, Doc. Liudmyla Zagoruiko.
All the participants received Conference Proceedings with materials from more than 60 participants, as well as other materials and certificates.
The NAPS President’s advisor Sergiy Kurbatov drew special attention to the latest books published the UERA members, in particular to the collective monograph ‘Local Quality Management Systems: International Experience and Ukrainian Construction Practices’ (edited by Taras Finikov and Vitaliy Tereshchuk). Prof. Svitlana Shchudlo presented the monograph ‘Ukrainian Teachers and School Environment’ written S. Shchudlo, O. Zabolotna and T. Lisova as an outcome of an All-Ukrainian Monitoring Survey of Secondary School Teachers and Principals (by TALIS methodology) conducted by the Ukrainian Educational Research Association with the questionnaires for teachers and principals used for Teaching and Learning International Survey conducted by OECD in 2013. Svitlana Shchudlo also presented the current project UERA was involved in and encouraged the association members to form project teams and submit project prooposals.
The Conference also was a site for having UERA Council election meeting. The UERA president Svitlana Shchudlo presented a report of UERA activities and provided its members with financial information. She shared her vision of the UERA development. By secret vote, the following Council members were elected: Prof. Svitlana Shchudlo (President), Prof. Oksana Zabolotna (Vice-President), doc. Lesia Perkhun (Executive Secretary), Prof. Volodymyr Bakhrushyn, Prof. Sergiy Kurbatov, Prof. Nadiia Skotna, Prof. Olena Kovalchuk, Doc. Natalia Horuk, Doc. Liudmyla Zagoruyko.
